The owner of an online luxury casino was arrested on Friday in Costa Rica. The raid on online luxury casino owner Calvin Ayres’ $3.5 million, 10,000 square home in San Jose was carried out by the Costa Rican police while a Fox Sports television crew was filming for a planned poker reality show. The film crew was staging a fake poker room brawl, and neighbors called the police. Neighbors have made complaints in the past about the noisy nature of the filming. The online luxury casino mogul was taken to the police house for questioning, along with some of his personal security guards. Ayre was promptly released, but some of his guards are still being held. However, some computer equipment was removed and has still not been returned. Some have suggested the raid was prompted by the U.S. government, since most of the online luxury casino customers are U.S. residents. However, Ayres, who was born and raised in Canada, is not a U.S. citizen and hold no known assets in the U.S. Ayres, who is 44, has an estimated net worth of at least $1 billion. His online luxury casino website handled $7.3 billion in wagers last year, which is triple the amount it grossed in 2004.
